Humayun Humayun, a member of parliament’s Lower House on Saturday claimed that some “corrupt” figures in the National Unity Government provoke schism among ethnic groups and seek to fragmentize the country.
Speaking to MPs during Saturday’s session, Humayun said: “I don’t have hostility towards the government but some corrupt individuals are challenging the system, provoking ethnic issues and I will stand against them until death.”
His remarks came as Wolesi Jirga members vied for first and second deputy speakers and two secretaries’ slots at the house administrative board election on Saturday.
Humayun Humayun, Nazir Ahmadzai, and Abdul Rahim Ayoubi nominated themselves for the first deputy position at the administrative board. However, all of the candidates fell short of target (50 plus 1) for success and in between Humayun and Ahmadzai went to next round of the election.
“The enemies of Afghanistan seek to challenge the unity of our people, and I will make efforts to strengthen national unity among all ethnic groups,” Nazir Ahmadzai said.
Following the administrative board election of the house, the nominees including Sayed Ali Kazemi and Ghulam Farooq Majroh were failed to grab the second deputy positions and new nominees are expected to compete for the posts.
Last year, Humayun Humayun was serving as first deputy speaker, Mohammad Nazir Ahmadzai as second deputy speaker, Abdul Qadar Zazai as secretary and Irfanullah Irfan as deputy secretary of the Wolesi Jirga.
